When a storm is coming ?
Here are some ways to prepare for a storm:
Prepare an emergency kit
Include non-perishable food, water, a flashlight, a portable radio, batteries, medicines, first aid supplies, money, seasonal clothing, and sanitation supplies. You should also have one gallon of water per person per day for several days, and extra batteries.
Protect your home
Cover window and door openings with shutters or other shielding materials. You can also anchor objects that would be unsafe to bring inside, such as gas grills and propane tanks.
Prepare your yard
Secure or store items that could blow around in strong winds. You can also trim trees and branches that could potentially fall on your home or property.
Make a plan
Create a family disaster plan that outlines what you would do in an emergency.
Prepare to evacuate
Test your emergency plan(s), learn evacuation routes, have a place to stay, and pack a “go bag”.
You should also:
Clean your gutters and drainage areas
Move grills, patio furniture, and potted plants
Remove roof turbines
Secure and brace external doors
Know your evacuation zone and consider your personal risk
Be ready to shelter in place
Monitor communications and follow instructions from local authorities
Evacuate immediately if told to do so
Be sure to prepare the following:
An emergency food and water supply.
An emergency medicine supply.
Emergency power sources such as flashlights (don't forget extra batteries).
Safety and personal items.
Important documents, including medical documents, wills, passports, and personal identification.
A fire extinguisher.
